“It's time to put my money where my mouth is”- Dana White wants to break boxing’s old system with Zuffa Boxing launch
Dana White has never hidden his frustration with modern boxing. For years, the UFC boss has criticised promoters and sanctioning bodies for blocking big fights. Now, he says it is time to act. With the launch of Zuffa Boxing, White wants to change how the sport works and make top fighters face each other more often.
White believes boxing has lost meaning because too many fighters protect perfect records. He argues that real competition is missing. Through Zuffa Boxing, backed by TKO Group and Saudi Arabia, he wants to remove barriers and create a system where wins truly matter and losses are part of fighting the best.
During a recent interview, Dana White explained that he has talked for years about boxing’s problems and now wants to invest his own money to fix them. He said his plan starts by cutting out major sanctioning bodies like the WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF. According to White, these organisations stop the best matchups from happening. His idea is simple. The best fighters should fight the best fighters.
White also said Zuffa Boxing will focus on signing young and rising talent. He believes this will make unbeaten records rare and meaningful again. In his view, many boxers stay undefeated because they avoid tough opponents. Under his system, fighters will face each other regularly. Reaching the top 10 while staying unbeaten will actually mean something. He compared this idea to Jon Jones in MMA, pointing out that Jones stayed undefeated while fighting elite competition throughout his career.
White revealed that Zuffa Boxing plans to hold events almost every month. These shows will be broadcast on Paramount+. He also confirmed that his team is ready to sign big-name boxers once their contracts with other promotions end. This signals a long-term plan rather than a short experiment.
The first Zuffa Boxing event is set for January 23 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. White announced that Irish star Callum Walsh will headline the show against Carlos Ocampo. He described the fight as a strong opening statement for the promotion. Ocampo brings heavy knockout power and far more finishes than Walsh has total fights. Walsh enters undefeated at 15-0 and is seen as a future star of Irish boxing. Ocampo, a former regional champion, holds a 38-3 record with 26 knockouts.
With this debut, Dana White is making it clear. Zuffa Boxing is meant to challenge boxing’s old rules and force real competition back into the sport.
