One of the greatest celebrities of the golf world, Rory McIlroy, has finally commented on the viral buzz concerning the U.S. Ryder Cup shirt unofficially featuring his silhouette. The Northern Irishman, now preparing for the biennial show-down, laughed when asked about the issue.

The Viral Debate on a Ryder Cup Shirt

The buzz started earlier in the week when Iain MacMillan, the sports analyst, posted a screenshot of a Ralph Lauren T-shirt from the U.S. Ryder Cup collection. The shirt had a silhouette of a golfer whom fans were quick to identify as resembling McIlroy. Only weeks away from the Ryder Cup, that very quickly became a talking point in golfing circles, with many amused by the idea of a European star's cameo in American merch. Asked about the shirt during the BMW PGA Championship, McIlroy brushed it off with his usual wit. "It's look more like Adam Scott to me than me, I think. But yeah, it looks a little similar. I don't know”, he mentioned.

McIlroy’s Playful Response

The world No. 2 golfer went on, "That's okay that's fine. I won't mind that."His gentle comment on the controversy charmed the fans even more, showing that of course, even with Ryder Cup stakes so high, he is not allowing any off-the-course issue to get in the way of his game.
For McIlroy, entering the 2025 Ryder Cup is one of the longest serving players on Team Europe. His records are still intact after huge victories in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2021, and 2023. Well, sometimes losing those battles has still made his presence the key to cementing Europe's dominance over the last decade and a half.
The 36 year old star golfer debuted and won the Ryder Cup in 2010 for Team Europe. Now, he has become the fiercest competitor and crowd favorite of his generation.More than likely, the shirt issue will be something to laugh about as the Ryder Cup draws down. For McIlroy, it is about getting back to doing his bit toward adding to Team Europe.
