One-time world champions Spain have announced their 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be held across the USA, Mexico and Canada from June 11. Head coach Luis de la Fuente has picked a strong mix of experienced stars and young talents as La Roja prepare for another title challenge on the world stage.Spain enter the tournament with high expectations after winning UEFA Euro 2024 and continuing their rise with Olympic gold at Paris 2024. Young sensation Lamine Yamal is expected to be one of the biggest attractions of the competition, although reports suggest he may miss the opening group-stage match because of injury. Midfielder Fermín López was ruled out after suffering a fractured foot and undergoing surgery last week.

Spain banking on young stars and experienced midfield for World Cup success

Spain’s squad includes key names across every department. Goalkeepers Unai Simón and David Raya will provide stability in goal, while defenders like Marc Cucurella, Aymeric Laporte and Pedro Porro strengthen the backline.
The midfield remains Spain’s biggest strength. Rodri returns as the leader of the side after recovering from injury. The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner will work alongside Pedri, Gavi and Fabián Ruiz in one of the strongest midfield units in the tournament.
In attack, Spain will depend heavily on the creativity and pace of Yamal and Nico Williams. They begin their campaign against Cape Verde on June 15 in Atlanta before facing Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in the remaining group matches.Sixteen years after winning their first World Cup title in 2010, Spain now believe this talented new generation can bring the trophy back home once again.
