USA figure skater Amber Glenn has shared a personal side of her life away from the ice. The 26-year-old spoke about her deep love for anime and how it shaped her personality. Glenn explained that animation became important to her early in her career and slowly grew into a passion. She now follows many series. She often connects anime themes of perseverance and emotion to her own journey in competitive skating.Glenn said she first discovered the anime world through “Yuri!!! on ICE”, which changed how she viewed storytelling in animation. Before that, she mainly watched superhero cartoons, especially DC animated shows. Over time she explored different styles, from action to emotional dramas. She also believes anime helps athletes express themselves. The skater added that the community surrounding anime gave her a sense of belonging and helped her bond with fans who relate to both sports and fandom culture.

She struggled in the short program after missing a planned triple loop and completing only a double loop. That error left her in 13th place and put pressure on her final performance. Two days later, she returned with a confident free skate and scored 147.52 points, her best mark of the season.When the total scores were added, Glenn finished fifth overall with 214.91 points. She missed the podium by just over four points. Even without an individual medal, she still earned Olympic gold as part of the United States team event victory.Glenn also discussed how anime motivates her training. Speaking on episode 94 of “the anime effect”, she explained that she has watched more than 50 different series despite a busy competition schedule.She is drawn to stories about personal growth which are plot lines for several anime. She says they mirror her experiences as an athlete. She believes both skating and anime require discipline, creativity, and emotional honesty.She imagined that if she ever created an anime about figure skating, it would follow two very different training groups.Glenn named eight favorite shows: Attack on Titan, The Apothecary Diaries, Spy x Family, Jujutsu Kaisen, Sakamoto Days, Hunter × Hunter, Demon Slayer, and Yuri!!! on ICE.She said being open about her fandom helped her connect with supporters. According to her, anime allows people to feel deeply and express themselves freely, something she tries to bring to the ice every time she performs.
