MUMBAI: In a ten-match league, if you fail to register a win after four games, your chances are as good as over.
But Dabang Mumbai's Australian captain
Glenn Turner feels there is a turnaround in sight and the franchise still has a slim chance of qualifying for the semifinal of the Hockey India League (HIL).
Mumbai take on Delhi Waveriders and their opponents have the added advantage of having
Sardar Singh start the match.
The Indian captain returns after serving a ban.
But Mumbai are hoping that home advantage will work in their favour.
"Home games are a big advantage and it's great to be back in Mumbai. We need to do well here and get some momentum going. I will be very disappointed if we don't put pressure on Delhi on Thursday," said Turner.
The Australian also feels there is a turnaround in store.
"We have had a couple of good halves but haven't finished off games. Wins in the next two matches will see us back in the top four. It's a close competition. We are a new team and the more time we spend together as a team, the better. A win will give us the momentum," he said.
Less than a week ago, Mumbai had lost to Delhi 3-1 in a L rather one-sided match after some good results in the first three games. Mumbai had drawn two games and lost one game. One of the draws was an exciting 3-3 game against Punjab Warriors.
For Delhi, the presence of Sardar Singh will be a huge boost and Turner acknowledged his ability not only as a leader but as a player. "He's a world-class player and their leader. They did pretty well without him. With him back they will be stronger," he said.
