In Formula 1, tenths of a second are crucial and sometimes inches too. But now that Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson have established themselves as two of the brightest young talents in the sport, various factors, from driving ability to attitude and yes, even height, have started to be drawn into the comparison. While winning championships may not be measured by an ounce, an inch does factor, although with far less direct intention, in terms of driver ergonomic fundamentals and comfort within the cramped environment of the Formula 1 cockpit. So just how tall are Hadjar and Lawson? Or can sheer height become inconsequential once the helmet is strapped on and the engines are revving?

Isack Hadjar’s compact build, sharp edges

Isack Hadjar's height is commonly quoted as 5 feet 6 inches (1.67 m), making him relatively petite even for the high-speed world of Formula 1, where every inch of cockpit space and weight management is meticulously optimized. Being smaller also makes it easier for the teams to manage the weight distribution of the car, since there would be more freedom regarding where the car's weight could be distributed.
His physical attributes match his approach to driving: aggressive, accurate, and efficient. He appears to enjoy operating in tight conditions, both literally and metaphorically, and his size is well-suited to the high-downforce, high-stress environments required for today’s F1 car.
There is not a spare ounce to his approach to driving, reflected in his physical frame. In races, Hadjar is not one to take the wide line; it’s all about hugging the apex.

How Liam Lawson is slightly taller and equally adaptable

"He is a little bit taller than I am. He is 175cm, to my 175.1 cm. It doesn't seem like a lot, but every centimeter counts in Formula 1 garages. Taller drivers often mean a modified cockpit, but Liam has adapted perfectly to every single car he's driven and the pressure that comes with them," explains Tony. His physique corresponds to his laid-back style of driving, where he doesn't fall short behind the wheel for long races. He may be tall, but his height hasn't been an issue as Formula One cars are capable of accommodating his height with ease.Ultimately, though, the Hadjar-Lawson height is a curiosity rather than an edge. One is a little shorter, and the other a little taller, but in Formula 1 racing, stature in the paddock is not a concern. It is a matter of how fast you go once you're in your car. Also Read: F1 2026: Isack Hadjar to partner Max Verstappen at Red Bull; Arvid Lindblad to debut with Racing Bulls
