Mitch Evans hopeful of winning Formula E title after Monaco E-Prix podium: “I’ve been here before”
Mitch Evans is on top of the world after finishing second in Round 9 of the Monaco E-Prix, but has no regrets about missing out on victory to Mahindra Racing driver Nyck De Vries. The Jaguar TCS Racing driver expressed his happiness for De Vries, who secured the win by a comfortable three-second margin. Evans now leads the Formula E Drivers’ Championship and is aiming to finally clinch the title this season.
Calling the race a slightly nerve-racking one, Evans said, “It was a pretty straightforward race with a few scary moments. Strategy was key today. I didn’t race particularly well at the start, probably could have been a bit more aggressive and I was being slightly cautious. But things came back towards me after the pit stop and the pit window worked out really well. To get to P2 is great - great points.”

Evans said he was pleased to finish behind Mahindra Racing’s Nyck De Vries, who claimed his first Formula E victory in more than three years. “Full credit to Nyck and Mahindra Racing, they were rapid all day so it was always going to be a big task to try and beat them. I’ll happily take P2 and the 18 points and move on to tomorrow,” he said.
Evans also revealed that he feared the rear of his car might give way after being hit multiple times around the Circuit de Monaco. Reflecting on the moment, the Jaguar TCS Racing driver said, “I got hit a few times and then through the next few corners I could feel the rear becoming a bit nervous and I thought, ‘Oh no, I’ve felt that before.’ But the pressure seemed alright and I managed to get away with it, so I was very fortunate there was no puncture and we could keep pushing afterwards.”
“I’ve been here before so I’m not going to get carried away, but these results are huge at this stage of the championship. We just need to keep accumulating points and take it race by race,” he said, hinting at his determination to clinch his maiden Formula E title this year.
Evans also holds the record for the most Formula E wins, with two victories already to his name this season.
