Lucas Di Grassi predicts Formula E’s racing singularity by 2027: “Electric racing will be faster than combustion cars”
Lucas Di Grassi has been part of Formula E since its inception 12 years ago and remains one of its biggest cheerleaders. The ABT Lola Yamaha Formula E Team driver has now spoken about what he sees as the biggest advantage of the all-electric racing series, claiming that a Formula E car will soon be faster than a combustion-powered car. His comments come ahead of the launch of the Gen4 Evo car, which is set to hit the track next year.
Comparing the upcoming Gen4 Evo with the new Formula 1 cars, which use hybrid power units combining electric and combustion elements, he further tweeted: “F1 will ‘adapt’ its hybrid rules… Cars will be less powerful and another 2s a lap slower. Before 2026 begins…”
Sharing a screenshot of his first tweet on Instagram, he invited fans to support Formula E. “Sooner rather than later. Join us,” he wrote in the caption. He humorously tagged his location as Mars and opened the floor for discussion.
Reacting to his post, one fan wrote: “Formula E’s whole selling point was that it was environmentally correct, until everyone saw the diesel generators in the pits.” Another said: “Who cares if it's faster? All I care about is good wheel-to-wheel racing. Faster doesn't mean better.” A third fan commented: “People are moving to historic and grassroots racing; speed isn’t as relevant to enthusiasts as it used to be. Motorsport has to feel worthwhile to play.”
Reacting to the changes, Di Grassi said in a video: “The rules I see in Formula 1, I don’t agree with them. For me, Formula 1 is supposed to be maximum performance, flat out all the time. The rules give a lot of room for drivers and systems to manage energy and adopt a driving style that is sometimes very similar to what we do in Formula E.”
Lucas Di Grassi will return to racing next month, with the Madrid E-Prix scheduled for March 21.

Lucas Di Grassi claims electric racing will surpass combustion cars by 2027
Lucas Di Grassi recently took to X to write: “Formula E was not born to be environmentally correct. Zero emissions is a byproduct of superior technology. Electric racing inevitably will be faster than any combustion cars. This is coming as soon as 2027. The ‘racing singularity’ is near.”Comparing the upcoming Gen4 Evo with the new Formula 1 cars, which use hybrid power units combining electric and combustion elements, he further tweeted: “F1 will ‘adapt’ its hybrid rules… Cars will be less powerful and another 2s a lap slower. Lucas Di Grassi gives thumbs down to new F1 rules
A few days earlier, Lucas Di Grassi also shared his opinion on the new F1 rules and regulations, under which the cars have become lighter and shorter while continuing to use hybrid power units that combine combustion and electric systems.Reacting to the changes, Di Grassi said in a video: “The rules I see in Formula 1, I don’t agree with them.
