PUNE: Argentine legend Diego Maradona's name cropped up on Wednesday as the most likely candidate to replace Sam Allardyce, who was sacked as the Blackburn Rovers manager. However, Venky's, the owners of the club, denied the development.
When TOI contacted the chairperson of the VH Group, Anuradha Desai, she clarified that there was no such development. "I don't know where this news has come from.

We do not have any plans to hire Diego Maradona. Not for now and not in the future as well. Maradona is not the right person for the Premier League and we do not intend to sign him. In fact, we have confidence in Steve Kean and for the next few months at least, he will be in charge."
Desai clarified that four months prior to the VH Group's takeover, her brother Balaji Rao was approached by a friend from South America who happens to know Diego Maradona and recommended his name.
