KOLKATA: Kolkata giants
Mohun Bagan began their pre-season training at the club ground on Wednesday morning to prepare for the upcoming
Calcutta Football League Premier Division A campaign. The Calcutta Football League Premier Division A is expected to start in the first week of August.
A total of 31 players attended the team's training session on the first day out of which 15 players are on trial.
Two of the three recruited foreigners - attacking midfielder Ansumana Kromah of Liberia and striker Stephen Bayi Kamo from Ivory Coast - were present on Wednesday. Mohun Bagan's third foreigner - Nigerian defender Eze Kingsley Obummeme - is expected to join the squad in the next few days.
"There is always pressure to coach a team like Mohun Bagan. Our target is obviously to win the Calcutta league. But, we don't want to put any extra pressure on the players," said Shankarlal Chakraborty, who is in charge of the team for the Calcutta Football League. "I have told the players on trial to not get nervous and express themselves freely. They will be given enough time to prove their worth."
Sanjoy Sen, who has been Mohun Bagan's coach for last three seasons, is the mentor of the team for the Calcutta Football League Premier Division A campaign. He will again take charge as the head coach of the team for the I-League.
Meanwhile, Kromah said it is dream come true for him to play for Mohun Bagan. "Joining a team like Mohun Bagan is a great privilege. I will give my 200 per cent for the team. Our target is to win the title," he said.
