KOLKATA: The Indian Football Association --- which is the parent body for the game of football in the state of West Bengal --- has decided to defer its special annual general meeting, which was scheduled to be held on April 8 to next month, owing to current lockdown in the country because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The new date for the meeting is yet to be finalized.
“It was not possible to have the meeting now in the current situation.

We hope to hold the meeting in May and will inform everyone about the date when it is decided,” Indian Football Association secretary Joydeep Mukherjee informed.
Meanwhile, Joydeep Mukherjee is also concerned about the future of upcoming edition of the Calcutta Football League, especially the first to fifth divisions of the league. While he is hopeful of finishing the remaining matches of the Nursery League and Kanyashree Cup, he is still not sure when it would be possible to start the first to fifth divisions of the league.
The original plan was to start the league in the final week of May. For that to happen, the clubs ought to be intimated at least one month in advance to start preparations, register players and have training sessions. However, with no clarity when the situation would get back to normal, it looks almost impossible to start in May end. Delaying the start of the league will make it extremely difficult to finish all the matches on time.
The clubs in those divisions have also voiced their concerns.
If these divisions cannot be played, it will be a matter of great concern for the players, groundsman and other people associated with the game.
Right now, there is less concern about the top two divisions --- Premier Division A and B --- as those usually start in late July or early August.
