Man City vs Inter Milan Highlights, Champions League 2023 Final: Manchester City beat Inter Milan 1-0 to win maiden UEFA Champions League

UEFA Champions League Final 2023: Manchester City completed a sensational season by beating Inter Milan 1-0 to win the Champions League for the first time on a Saturday night of frayed nerves at the Ataturk Stadium. Spanish midfielder Rodri's 68th-minute goal settled a cagey contest that a far-from-fluent City dominated but they never looked comfortable against the three-time winners.

* Inter Milan are only the fourth side to reach the UEFA Champions League final after losing their first game of the season, along with Milan in 1994-95, Bayern Munich in 1998-99 and Tottenham in 2018-19, all of whom lost their finals. In the European Cup, the two teams to win the title after losing their first games are Real Madrid in 1965-66 and AC Milan in 1968-69.

* Manchester City are looking to become the fourth different English side to win the UEFA Champions League, after Man United (1999, 2008), Liverpool (2005, 2019) and Chelsea (2012, 2021), which would be the most of any nation. The current total of three is the joint-most, along with Italy (AC Milan, Juventus, Inter).

Lukaku on the bench for Inter
Edin Dzeko starts against his former club City after winning the battle for a starting spot along Lautaro Martinez in Inter's two-man attack. Simone Inzaghi has left Romelu Lukaku on the bench despite the Belgium striker's hot form in the final weeks of the season. Lukaku, who has scored seven times and set up five more in his last 11 matches, will likely be used as a weapon from the bench. Marcelo Brozovic has been given the nod in midfield ahead of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the Croat lining up alongside Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu who can win club football's biggest prize in his home country.

Haaland leads City attack
Erling Haaland leads the line for an otherwise familiar team, looking to add to his tournament-leading 12 goals from 10 appearances as City aim to be crowned continental kings for the first time. Lone striker Haaland will be backed up by assist king Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan, with Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish on each flank.

Guardiola drops injured Walker
Pep Guardiola has dropped Kyle Walker from Manchester City's starting XI for the Champions League final against Inter Milan after he failed to recover from a back problem in time for tonight's showdown in Istanbul. England international Walker being benched means Manuel Akanji starts on the right of a three-man defence also featuring Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake into which Jone Stones can drop back from midfield.

It is the second Champions League final held at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, situated on the European side of the Bosphorus, 25 kilometres from central Istanbul. Liverpool triumphed here in 2005, recovering from a three-goal deficit against Milan to draw 3-3 before winning on penalties.

Man City's only European trophy to date came in 1970, when they won the Cup Winners' Cup, beating Poland's Gornik Zabrze 2-1 in the final. If they do get the better of Inter, they will be the first new name on the trophy since Chelsea in 2012. It will also mean Manchester is just the second city to produce two different winners of the competition, after Milan.

We understand what they are as a team. They defend incredibly well. We don't expect it to be an open game. That doesn't happen a lot in a final anyway.

Inter, while one of Europe's grand old names, should not be able to compete with City when you look at their finances. The Nerazzurri have enormous debts and their income for last year was under half that of City. However, they emerged from their group ahead of Barcelona before beating Porto, their first victory in a Champions League knockout tie since 2011. They then saw off Benfica and AC Milan to reach the final. They have won 11 of their last 12 games and recently retained the Coppa Italia.

Man City have become an almost irresistible force. They brushed aside RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the knockout rounds and have lost just once in 27 matches. The goals of Erling Haaland -- 52 in all competitions -- have elevated them to another level, along with Guardiola's decision to turn centre-back John Stones into a midfielder.
