ISL: Video evidence puts Elano in the clear

CHENNAI: There was a lot of bad blood around the Indian Super League final on December 20 last year and it doesn't seem to die down. FC Goa, who lost the final to Chennaiyin FC, had alleged after the game that one of their co-owners

Dattaraj Salgaocar

was beaten up by Chennaiyin's

Elano Blumer

and an FIR was lodged against the Brazilian with the

Goa police

. Later that evening, Elano was arrested and later released on bail.

But now, with the

ISL regulatory commission

set to meet on Tuesday to take a decision on the issue, TOI is in possession of a video that clearly shows that Elano hadn't even touched Salgaocar during the altercation that happened at the end of the final in

Margao

.

The video shows Elano walking towards the FC Goa dug-out after having a word with their Brazilian coach Zico. But suddenly it's the Goa officials, which includes Salgaocar, who crowd out the Brazilian. It is at this time that Sundar Raman, the CEO of Reliance, Sports, who comes to the rescue of Elano and the Brazilian is dragged out of the melee and there is no video footage of the player hitting Salgaocar. But the Goa co-owner is then seen making phone calls after a heated debate with some ISL officials.

"The video clearly shows that Elano didn't even touch Salgaocar. So they had no business filing an FIR and boycotting the prize distribution ceremony," a source close to the developments said.

The ISL authorities claimed that even though they told the Goa police that they have video footage which shows Elano hadn't touched Salgaocar, the cops didn't want to have a look at it or take any action.
