Battlefield 6 Season 2 update patch notes: Contaminated map, new weapons, and more

Battlefield 6 Season 2 has officially launched, bringing a big update packed with new content and major fixes. The update went live on February 17 at 12 PM UTC, with downloads available earlier at 9 AM UTC for pre-loading. This season adds a new map, new weapons, limited-time modes, gameplay improvements, and many bug fixes.

Here’s a simple breakdown of everything included in Season 2.

New Map: Contaminated

The biggest addition is a new map called Contaminated. It is set in a European mountainside area around a German airbase. The map supports all player sizes and includes land vehicles and helicopters.



You can play Contaminated in several modes, including Conquest, Breakthrough, Escalation, Squad Death Match, and Strikepoint. The map offers both open areas for long-range fights and tighter spaces for close combat.

Season 2 introduces a new smoke mechanic called VL-7 and to survive inside these contaminated zones, players must wear a Protective Mask and manage filters. If your filter runs out, your screen becomes distorted, making it harder to fight.

In Battle Royale mode, a version called “Synthesis” adds smoke to Fort Lyndon. In Gauntlet: Altered State, squads compete while dealing with smoke-filled areas and fast-paced objectives.

New Weapons and Gadgets

Season 2 adds several new weapons and tools:

• M121 A2 - A powerful machine gun, best for close fights
• GRT-CPS - A semi-auto rifle for medium and long distances
• VCR-2 - A fast assault rifle for close combat
• 9K38 IGLA - A lock-on missile launcher for shooting down aircraft
• HTI-Mk2 - A recon tool to detect enemy gadgets and drones
• Protective Mask - Protects you from VL-7 smoke

The AH-6 Little Bird helicopter also returns, giving NATO forces a fast and deadly air vehicle.

Gameplay Improvements and Fixes

This update includes more than 240 improvements and bug fixes. One major change is better weapon recoil. Guns now feel more consistent and easier to control. Many automatic weapons were adjusted to improve balance.

Player movement has been improved, (sliding, jumping, vaulting, and climbing ladders) now feel smoother and more reliable. Vehicle handling and gadget behavior have been fixed in several areas.

A new stat screen has also been added to the Player Profile. Players can now track career totals and best performances.

This season also brings a new Battle Pass with four progression paths. Players can unlock weapons, skins, XP boosts, and more. Progression is now faster, as Battle Pass tokens are earned more quickly through XP and weekly challenges.
