…THE RUN CHASE…
Right then, Mumbai needs 151 to get their fourth win of the season and move up the ladder. Can they do it or will UP come hard with the ball in a must-win contest for the home side? We shall find out soon. Join us in a bit for the second essay.
Georgia Voll is up for a chat. She says that she was disappointed after the first game but this outing turned out well for her with the bat. Adds that they have got a big job to do with the ball and hopefully they can keep Mumbai under 150. Mentions that she is happy to open the innings with Grace Harris and says that 150 is a good score after they lost wickets through the middle of the innings. Shares that the wicket is a bit two-paced but adds that they have a quality bowling lineup and hopes to get the job done.
After giving away a few loose balls, Mumbai did well to bounce back in the second half of the innings. They choked in the scoring and took wickets at regular intervals. At one stage, it looked like UP would go past the 180-run mark but some tidy bowling and ground fielding from Mumbai got them back in the contest. Amelia Kerr was the pick of the bowler with a five-wicket haul while Hayley Matthews chipped in with a couple. Natalie Sciver-Brunt and Parunika Sisodia bowled tidy spells and chipped in with one apiece. Mumbai will be the happier side going into the break.
An excellent fightback from Mumbai has restricted UP to 150/9 from their 20 overs. Having been sent into bat first, UP got off to a brilliant start with Grace Harris and Georgia Voll who added 74 for the first wicket in eight overs. Harris departed on 28 but Voll carried on and smashed her maiden fifty in the Women's T20 League to set the base for her side. UP then lost Voll and Kiran Navgire in the space of a few balls and it allowed Mumbai to come back in the game. They made the scoring difficult for the UP batters and the boundaries were hard to come by for the home side. Deepti Sharma with 27 off 25 balls and Sophie Ecclestone with a cameo of 16 off 11 ensured UP get a fighting score in the end.
Amelia Kerr to Sophie Ecclestone, OUT! AMELIA KERR FINISHES WITH A FIVE-WICKET HAUL. Drops it a touch short, on off. Sophie Ecclestone goes back and looks to clear the deep midwicket boundary.
