Joburg Super Kings (JSK) captain
Faf du Plessis has been sidelined for the rest of the SA20 season after picking up a thumb injury during the side’s clash against MI Cape Town on January 10. The franchise has announced Donovan Ferreira as the stand-in captain for the rest of the competition.
The franchise confirmed that du Plessis sustained a ligament tear to his right thumb, an injury that will require surgery and has brought his SA20 campaign to a premature end.

JSK expressed their support for the former South Africa captain on social media.
“All our love with you, skipper. Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of the remainder of the SA20 season after suffering a right thumb ligament tear, requiring surgical repair. Our best wishes are with you,” the team said in an official statement.
Despite the blow of losing their captain, Joburg Super Kings remain well positioned in the fourth season of the SA20. They are currently third on the SA20 points table with 17 points, having won three of their seven matches so far.
The challenge now will be to sustain that momentum during the crucial latter stages of the league without their regular leader opening the batting.
At 41, du Plessis scored 135 runs from five innings this season, averaging 27.00 while striking at an impressive rate of 151.68.
While the numbers may not fully reflect his impact, his experience and calm leadership were influential in steering the side through key phases of their campaign, such as a Super Over win against Durban's Super Giants and comprehensive victory over the same opponents at Kingsmead.
For now, JSK have not named a replacement for du Plessis. Their next fixture is against two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape on Wednesday.
