RCB vs GG, WPL 2025 highlights: Richa Ghosh shines as Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Gujarat Giants by 6 wickets

Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Gujarat Giants, WPL 2025 highlights: Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh delivered powerful half-centuries as Royal Challengers Bengaluru achieved a historic Women's Premier League victory, successfully chasing down 202 runs to defeat Gujarat Giants on Friday. Perry (57, 34b, 6x4, 2x6) and Ghosh (64 not out, 27b, 7x4, 4x6) displayed exceptional batting prowess in the tournament's opening match.

RCB faced early setbacks, losing both openers Smriti Mandhana (9) and Danny Wyatt (4) to Ashleigh Gardner in the second over, leaving them at 14 for two.

The partnership between Perry and Raghavi Bist (25, 27b) yielded 86 runs, stabilising the innings until Bist fell to Deandra Dottin.

Perry, who received a lifeline when dropped on 19, capitalised on the opportunity against the Giants' imprecise bowling attack.
Despite nursing a hip injury from the recent Women's Ashes, Perry reached her fifty off 27 balls with a six against Dottin.

Following Perry's dismissal by Sayali Satghare, Ghosh and Kanika Ahuja (30 not out, 13b, 4x4) took control of the chase.

Their unbroken 93-run partnership, featuring Ghosh's 23-ball fifty, proved decisive as RCB secured victory, scoring 64 runs in the final five overs.

Earlier, Gujarat Giants posted 201/5, powered by captain Gardner's explosive 79 off 37 balls (3x4, 8x6) and Beth Mooney's composed 56 off 42 (8x4).

After losing Wolvaardt and Hemalatha with 41 runs on board, Mooney and Gardner steadied the innings with a 44-run partnership before Mooney fell to Prema Rawat.

Gardner and Dottin (25, 13b, 3x4, 1x6) accelerated the scoring with a rapid 67-run partnership.

Gardner's aggressive approach contrasted with Mooney's technical batting, as she dominated both spin and pace, particularly targeting Prema and VJ Joshitha for three sixes each.

The innings concluded with Dottin's dismissal by Renuka Singh whilst attempting an aggressive shot.

The fielder at mid-wicket throws the ball to wide of the stumps where the keeper Beth Mooney can't hold the ball in the throw and the batter makes it to the crease.

... The Run Chase ...

21:13 (IST) Feb 14

Now, Gujarat is clearly in the driver’s seat with this strong total. The pitch is flat, but having runs on the board will give their bowlers a huge confidence boost. They will look to carry forward the momentum set by their captain. Bengaluru, on the other hand, needs to forget the last eight overs and focus entirely on the chase. The dew could come into play and make things a bit easier for them. So, who will come out on top in the second inning? Don’t go anywhere as the action isn't far away!

21:12 (IST) Feb 14

Bengaluru’s bowlers were impressive in the first 12 overs, maintaining pressure with regular breakthroughs. Their fielding was sharp during that phase too, but everything changed once Gardner and Dottin took charge, he pressure got to them, and they started fumbling in the field, dropping crucial catches and losing their accuracy with the ball. The bowlers, who started so well, struggled to keep the same intensity. Smriti Mandhana rotated her bowlers smartly, but they just couldn’t handle the onslaught in the final eight overs.

21:11 (IST) Feb 14

Gujarat started well, thanks to their opener Beth Mooney, who made full use of the powerplay, finding the boundaries with ease. Laura Wolvaardt, on the other hand, wasn’t at her best and fell for a low score. But Mooney kept the scoreboard ticking, reached her half-century, and laid the perfect platform for the middle-order batters. Then came the skipper, Ash Gardner, at number four, and she built the only fifty-run partnership of the inning with debutant Deandra Dottin. Both batters took on the bowlers from both ends, shifting the pressure back on Bengaluru. Gardner was in destructive form, reaching her fifty in just 25 balls and smashing some of the biggest sixes of the night. She cleared the ropes 11 times in this inning, giving Gujarat the perfect finishing touch with a captain’s knock.

21:09 (IST) Feb 14

What an exciting and eventful inning this has been for Gujarat! At one stage, they were looking at an under-par total, but they ended up with a massive 201/5. They will be the happier side, walking back to the dressing room with all the momentum and it’s all because of one player, their skipper Ash Gardner. She is known worldwide for her powerful hitting down the order and she proved exactly why she has that reputation. Bengaluru had things under control for the first 12 overs, picking up wickets at regular intervals and keeping the scoring rate in check. But they completely lost their grip in a span of just four overs after that as they went for 61 runs between the 13th and 16th overs, and they’ll surely regret letting Gujarat off the hook.
