WTC standings: New Zealand overtake Pakistan, India after a big win over West Indies

New Zealand secured a commanding nine-wicket victory against the West Indies in the second Test at Wellington's Basin Reserve on Friday, strengthening their position for a potential second ICC World Test Championship Final appearance. The win earned them 12 crucial championship points, elevating them to third place in the standings alongside Sri Lanka.Jacob Duffy's impressive five-wicket haul was instrumental in dismissing West Indies for 128 in their second innings on day three. The Black Caps needed only 56 runs for victory and a 1-0 series lead.Devon Conway and Kane Williamson remained unbeaten at 28 and 16 respectively, guiding their team to victory after losing captain Tom Latham for nine runs early in the chase.The victory has improved New Zealand's win-loss percentage to 66.67 percent, positioning them behind only Australia (100 percent) and South Africa (75 percent) in the championship standings.Earlier in the match, Devon Conway and Mitchell Hay built a strong foundation for New Zealand on day two, both achieving half-centuries despite challenging bowling from West Indies seamers. Their partnership helped establish a 73-run first-innings lead.
The final scorecard showed West Indies scoring 205 in their first innings and 128 in their second, with Shai Hope contributing 47 runs and John Campbell adding 44. Jacob Duffy claimed figures of 5-38. New Zealand posted 278 in their first innings, and 57/1 in the second, with Mitchell Ray scoring 61 and Devon Conway making 60, while Anderson Phillip took 3-70.The third Test between these teams is scheduled to begin on December 18 in Mount Maunganui.
