KOLKATA: Bengal cricketers had their first online session with Vision 2020 batting consultant VVS Laxman on Monday. The first day saw the former India batsman working with opener Abhishek Raman and youngster Kazi Junaid Saifi.

The

Cricket Association of Bengal

(CAB) had sent video footage of each player to Laxman, who decided to have individual sessions.

Bengal coach Arun Lal and CAB’s Cricket Operations manager Joydeep Mukherjee were also present during the sessions, which were mainly based on Laxman’s observations.

Laxman spent around 45 minutes with Raman, who disappointed after a bright start to the season. It was learnt Laxman stressed on how to build on a good start and regain confidence after a slump.

As Saifi is also a member of the Bengal Under-23 side, their coach

With no outdoor practice possible, Laxman also enquired about the player’s fitness regime, which is being monitored by the team trainer.

“We mainly talked about the season that went by,” Raman said. “I learnt how to handle the ups and downs of a season,” he added.

“It was a good session. VVS is a thorough professional. He advised them on how to learn from the season gone by,” Lal said later.

“Laxman sir shared his experience with me,” Saifi, who made his debut for senior Bengal last season, said.

Mukherjee said “we plan to do sessions for U-16, U-19 and U-23 players too.”
