CHENNAI: Tuti Patriots survived
Antony Dhas’ 26-ball 63 to score a 6-run run win over Lyca Kovai Kings in their rain-affected TNPL-4 clash at the NPR College ground in Dindigul on Thursday.
The clash, reduced to 13 overs a side, saw Tuti Patriots finish on 155 for 5 thanks to skipper Subramania Siva's 21-ball 44. In reply, Kovai’s innings got off to the worst possible start as they were three down in the first 10 balls.
Their innings gained momentum from the 7th over when Dhas and Akkil Srinaath (32, 1x4, 3x6) got together. The duo added 71 from 32 deliveries to leave Kovai needing 23 from the last 10. However, the experienced Vasanth Saravanan (1-5) had Dhas caught behind and Kovai --- from thereon --- failed to cross the finish line.
Earlier, Siva played a captain’s knock for Tuti. He walked in with the scoreboard reading 1 for 1 in the opening over. He added 55 runs in just 3.1 overs with opener Akshay Srinivasan (31, 1x4, 4x6) that set the tone for Tuti's innings. Once Akshay departed in the 4th over, Siva found an able ally in Nidhish Rajagopal (13, 2x4) as the two took the score to 89 in the 8th over. By the time, Siva departed — caught by Anirudh off Antony Dhas — Tuti were 99 in the 10th over. Some lusty hits by Vasanth Saravanan (12-ball 29) towards the end took Tuti’s total past the 150-run mark.
Brief scores (13-overs-a-side): Tuti Patriots 155-5 (V Subramania Siva 44, Dhas 3-42). Lyca Kovai Kings 149-7 (Antony Dhas 63; A Srinaath 33). Tuti won by 6 runs
