TNCA League: Himmat's ton propels Vijay CC

CHENNAI: Himmat Singh scored an unbeaten 125 to help Vijay CC end on 232 for 4 at stumps on the opening day of their TNCA Elite first division clash against Globe Trotters on Saturday.
Himmat's 141-ball essay contained 11 fours and six sixers, and was his maiden hundred in the league. In the company of G Rahul Singh (58, 6x4, 1x6), Himmat added 158 runs in 29.4 overs for the fourth wicket to help Vijay CC call the shots.
In another Elite encounter, Nelson's right-arm medium pacer W Antony Dhas bagged his first five wicket haul of the season, returning with figures of 5 for 48 as they bowled out India Pistons for 163 in 54.4 overs. Ganapathi Chandrasekar was the top-scorer with 37.
In reply, Nelson were in a spot of bother at 20 for 5. For India Pistons, left-arm spinner Rajwinder Singh (2 for 8) and offie M Prabhu (3 for 8) shone with the ball.
Young Stars, in their clash against Grand Slam, were placed at 171 for 8 in 54.5 overs.
In a Plate league match, Jolly Rovers were 207 for 9 in 60 overs against TI Cycles. V Ganga Sridhar Raju (45), skipper M Kaushik Gandhi (49) were the main contributors for Rovers. For TI Cycles, left-arm spinner duo of Varun Sood (4 for 42) and R Sanjay Yadav (3 for 71) led the way with the ball.
Meanwhile, the opening day's play in matches between -- Alwarpet CC vs UFCC and AG's Office vs CromBest -- were called off without a ball being bowled.
