Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube felicitated by Maharashtra CM after World Cup win
Mumbai: The country is currently in celebratory mode after India’s 2026 T20 World Cup victory. On Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis honoured the Mumbai duo of India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and allrounder Shivam Dube for their role in the title-winning campaign. Dube and Surya were also a part of India's 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team.
India sealed the title with a commanding 96-run win over New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The duo met the Chief Minister at his official residence Varsha. Fadnavis congratulated both cricketers and praised their contribution in helping India defend the trophy and bring pride to the country. Also present on the occasion was Mumbai Cricket Association president Ajinkya Naik.
Meanwhile, in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis moved a congratulatory motion on Monday to honour the Indian cricket team for its outstanding performance in the tournament. "Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a resolution congratulating Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Heartiest congratulations to captain Suryakumar Yadav and the entire Team India!," Fadnavis posted.
"The hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis sir felicitated Suryakumar and Dube, appreciating Team India’s remarkable triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. It was a proud moment celebrating India’s cricketing excellence," Naik said.
The Mumbai duo played a key role in India’s title run. Captaining the team brilliantly, SKY scored 242 runs in nine matches at an average of 30.25 and a strike rate over 136, including one half-century. With a strike rate of 169.06, the Indian captain finished as India’s third-highest run-getter in the competition. His top score of 84 not out off 49 balls against USA at the Wankhede Stadium in the opening match of the tournament helped India wriggle out of trouble after they had collapsed to 77 for six in the 13th over.
Dube also enjoyed a fine run in the tournament-the big-hitting left-hander scored 235 runs in nine matches (eight innings) at an impressive strike rate of 169.06. His ability to attack spin in the middle overs gave India a major edge during their successful campaign. He also took five wickets in nine games.
India became the first team to win a T20 World Cup on home soil and also the first side to successfully defend the title. It was also India’s third T20 World Cup crown, adding to the titles won in 2007 and 2024.
