Shoaib Akhtar's YouTube channel banned in India following Pahalgam terror attack
In the aftermath of the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian government has taken stringent action by banning 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including high-profile ones like Dawn News, Samaa TV, Ary News, and Geo News, on the recommendations of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The government cited the dissemination of provocative, communally sensitive content, false narratives, and misinformation aimed at maligning India, its army, and security agencies.
In the midst of this crackdown, Shoaib Akhtar's YouTube channel has also faced a ban in India. The former Pakistani cricketer, widely recognized for his in-depth cricket analysis and engaging commentary, has been a popular figure among Indian cricket fans. His channel primarily focused on cricket insights and match analysis, but the ban comes as part of a broader effort by the Indian authorities to control the spread of content that could potentially inflame tensions between the two nations, especially in light of the recent events in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Ministry of Home Affairs' recommendations to block these channels were rooted in concerns over the type of content being shared, which reportedly included misleading narratives and attempts to incite communal divisions. While Akhtar’s content has been mostly apolitical, focusing on cricket and his personal experiences, the ban suggests that the timing of these actions, following the Pahalgam terror attack, might have played a role in the decision.
As of now, Akhtar has not made a public statement regarding the ban, and it remains unclear whether his YouTube presence will be restored in India. However, the broader context of the ban highlights the growing concerns over digital content regulation, especially during sensitive periods, and the government's efforts to curb the spread of divisive and harmful narratives.
