KOCHI: Kerala pacer
Sandeep Warrier will replace
Navdeep Saini in the India ‘A’ squad currently touring West Indies. Delhi pacer Saini has been included in the Indian senior squad for both T20Is and one-dayers against West Indies next month. With the first Test of the unofficial 'A' series already getting underway on Wednesday, Sandeep, who is flying to Windies on Friday, will only be available for selection for second and third unofficial 'A' Tests.
The 28-year-old from Thrissur had played for India ‘A’ in both the first-class matches and five one-dayers against visiting Sri Lankans last month.
After making his first-class debut almost seven years back in Perinthalmanna, Sandeep has come leaps and bounds as a fast bowler. He enjoyed his best domestic season last year, leading the Kerala bowling pack admirably and ending the Ranji season with 44 wickets from 10 matches.
Though he was not initially picked by any of the IPL franchise, Sandeep was finally rewarded for his consistent show in domestic cricket when Kolkata Knight Riders offered him a contract when two of their rookie pacers Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi got injured.
“I got the message that I will be replacing Saini in the West Indies squad on Monday. Though I have played for India ‘A’ before, this will be the first time I will be travelling with ‘A’ team abroad. So I am pretty excited and hope to do well in the opportunities I get to play in Windies,” an elated Sandeep told TOI from Chennai.
