Ranji Trophy: Mohit Avasthi puts Mumbai on top after Sanat Sangwan ton

MUMBAI: Sanat Sangwan has enjoyed a dream season in the Ranji Trophy and is currently the top run-getter, scoring 804 runs in seven matches at 73.09 with three centuries and three half-centuries. However, the 25-year-old would have been most satisfied with the ton he scored on Thursday, in his maiden first-class outing against Mumbai.

Undeterred by wickets falling around him, the opener, playing in just his second season, slammed a gallant 118 (218b; 11x4, 2x6) on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy Group D tie here. However, his knock was overshadowed by Mumbai’s seasoned pacer Mohit Avasthi, who moved the ball around beautifully in helpful conditions and took 5/62 in 16.4 overs to bowl out Delhi for just 221 in 76.4 overs. At stumps, Mumbai were 13/1.




They are already through to the knockouts while Delhi are out of the race for a KO berth.

Mumbai players forced to wear masks due to pollution In the last few years, the Mumbai Cricket Association’s ground in Bandra-Kurla Complex has been the favoured venue for cricketers for home Ranji matches.

However, pollution, plenty of dust and constant noise due to an under-construction building is now emerging as major irritants at this venue. On Thursday, three of Mumbai’s players — Sarfaraz Khan, his younger brother Musheer and off-spinning allrounder Himanshu Singh — were all forced to wear masks for around 30 minutes due to the pollution. BKC’s AQI was at 156, mentioned as ‘unhealthy’.
