KOLKATA: Jharkhand proved the huge win against minnows Manipur in their previous game was just a blip in their poor show this season as the Virat Singh & Co. went down to Haryana by an innings and 205 runs inside Day 3 of the Ranji Trophy Group A game on Sunday.
Jayant Yadav was the star of the day by first completing his five-for in the first innings and then returning another five-for in the Jharkhand second essay as the hosts succumbed to their second outright loss of the season.
Already staring at a huge loss at stumps on Day 2, Jharkhand lost 11 wickets on the day as they were asked to follow-on by Haryana skipper Ashok Menaria at Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur.
Resuming the day on 119/9, Jharkhand lost former captain Shahbaz Nadeem in the second over of the day without adding any run board as veteran India off-spinner Yadav completed his five-for with the wicket.
Following-on, opener Vikash Vishal (6) fell for just 12 runs on board but Utkarsh Singh (53 off 104 balls) and Kumar Suraj (44 off 117 balls) showed some resistance to build a 56-run stand for the second wicket before Yadav opened his account in the second innings castling Utkarsh.
Kumar Kushagra (21 off 30) then joined hands with Suraj as the duo put up 43 runs for the third wicket but then the floodgates opened for the hosts as they lost wickets in quick succession to go down for 185 runs in the second innings.
Yadav ran through the Jharkhand middle order as he scalped the important wickets of captain Virat, veteran Saurabh Tiwary and all-rounder Anukul Roy before taking his fifth wicket of the innings with Sushant Mishra. Yadav’s match haul reads an impressive 10/90.
Brief Scores: Haryana 509 beat Jharkhand 119 in 39.3 overs (Jayant Yadav 5/35, Sumit Kumar 3/9) & F/O 185 in 61.4 overs (Utkarsh Singh 53, Kumar Suraj 44; Jayant Yadav 5/55, Nishant Sindhu 3/39) by an innings & 205 runs.
