CHENNAI:
Pondicherry ended their Vijay Hazare campaign with a 137-run loss to
Maharashtra in their final league clash in Jaipur on Monday. Pondicherry finished last in Group D with one win from 5 outings in the tournament.
Batting first, Maharashtra rode centuries from opener Yash Nahar (119) and Ankit Bawne (110) to end on 333 for 4 and then bowled out Pondicherry for 196 in 43.2 overs.
The 192-run second wicket partnership between Yash and Ankit laid the foundation for Maharashtra’s innings. Rahul Tripathi’s unbeaten 30-ball 59 ensured Maharashtra notched up a strong total on board.
Pondicherry, in reply, slipped to 21 for 4 by the 4th over.
Sheldon Jackson (45) and Ashith Rajiv (30) kept Pondicherry in the chase with a 73-run stand for the 5th wicket.
After the two departed, Pondicherry’s chase fizzled out despite Sagar Trivedi’s (79 n.o.) resistance in the end. Medium-pacer Rajvardhan Hangargekar shone with 4 for 45 for Maharashtra.
Brief scores: Maharashtra 333-4 in 50 overs (Yash Nahar 119, Ankit Bawne 110). Pondicherry (Sagar Trivedi 79 n.o.; Rajvardhan 4-45). Maharashtra won by 137 runs.
