NEW DELHI: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has confirmed the extension of former England international player Jonathan Trott's tenure as head coach until the end of 2025.
The ACB stated that Trott’s contract was extended due to his successful two-and-a-half-year stint with the team, during which Afghanistan achieved significant milestones.
"The decision comes in after his successful 2.5-year tenure, during which he made significant contributions to the team's progress and development," the ACB said in a statement.

Under Trott, Afghanistan has achieved remarkable success in ICC events. In the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India, Afghanistan finished in sixth place, securing notable victories over England, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and the Netherlands.
They continued their momentum in the 2024 T20 World Cup, defeating cricketing powerhouses Australia, Bangladesh, and New Zealand to reach their first-ever semi-final.
Currently, Afghanistan is on a multi-format tour of Zimbabwe. Trott will coach the team for the ODIs but will be unavailable for the T20I and Test legs due to personal commitments.
In Trott’s absence, Hamid Hassan will oversee the team, while Nawroz Mangal will serve as the assistant coach during the series, as confirmed by the ACB.
"Jonathan Trott will accompany the squad only in ODIs, whereas he will remain unavailable for the T20Is and Test matches due to his personal commitments. Hamid Hassan will step up and take on the role of Head Coach in Trott's absence," the statement added.
