Jolly Rovers
will take on Globe Trotters in the final of the VA Parthasarathy Memorial one-day tournament here on Thursday. In the semifinals on Wednesday, the Rovers got the better of
India Pistons
while Globe Trotters cruised past CromBest.
For Jolly Rovers,
Robin Bist (120 n.o, 13x4), M Kaushik Gandhi (53, 6x4) and S Suresh Kumar (54, 6x4) played their parts as they chased down Pistons’ target of 268 in 47.5 overs. Robin and Suresh added 111 off just 107 deliveries for the fourth-wicket stand. Batting first, Pistons had made 267 riding Jiwan Jot Singh’s (116, 16x4) 99-ball knock. For Rovers, medium-pacers Sandeep Sharma (3-32), Prasanth Parameswaran (3-44) and J Kaushik (2-57) led the show with the ball.
The other semifinal proved to be a one-sided contest with CromBest folding up for just 133 against Globe Trotters. Barring AS Govinda Raajan’s 33 and skipper Wilkins Victor’s 28, there was little fight shown by other players as CromBest’s innings lasted only 35.4 overs. For Globe Trotters, S Aniruda (3-7), Washington Sundar (2-7), Sunil Sam (2-25) and Monish Satish (2-39) were among the wickets. In reply, Trotters took just 20.2 overs to overhaul CromBest’s total. K Mukunth (57 n.o. 8x4) and Gnaneswara Rao 44 were the main contributors for the winners.
