CHENNAI:
Jolly Rovers
have always been a force to reckon with for years now. The champion team will be looking to seal the deal in their Tamil Nadu Cricket Association First Division 'Plate' championship match against
Alwarpet
CC which kicks off at the Gurunanak College ground from Friday.
Jolly Rovers, last season's Elite division winners, were demoted to the Plate category after the completion of five rounds in August 2017.
The rule states that only the three top teams in each group would remain in the Elite category and Jolly Rovers - who were placed fourth in Group A - had to be relegated. From that group, Young Stars, Nelson SC and India Pistons continued to feature in the Elite league.
The multiple-time winners will want to make amends for that miss and show their fans that they still had what it takes to be a top flight side. For Rovers, their batsmen have been on the money while the bowlers too have come up to the party.
Skipper M
Kaushik Gandhi
has led from the front scoring big daddy hundreds and has got ample support from teammates M Shahrukh Khan and
Ganga Sridhar Raju. On the bowling front, left-arm spinner DT Chandrasekar has been among wickets and has four five-wicket hauls in the season.
Meanwhile, the Elite league in the first division will see the semifinal stage kicking off from Friday. In one semifinal clash, India Pistons will lock horns against Globe Trotters at Murugappa Ground while Grand Slam play the formidable
Vijay CC
side in the other last-four stage clash at SSN College ground.
