CHENNAI:

Dindigul Dragons

registered a comfortable eight-wicket wicket win over

Lyca Kovai Kings

in their TNPL-3 clash at the NPR College ground in Dindigul on Wednesday. Dindigul’s leading contributors were

N Jagadeesan

(66 not out, 5x4, 2x6) and NS Chaturved (72, 5x4, 6x6). Their 105-run second-wicket stand from 72 deliveries proved decisive as their side clinched the contest with 14 balls to spare.

In pursuit of 186, Dindigul’s opening pair — Jagadeesan and Hari Nishanth (19, 1x4, 2x6) — started off by scoring 19 runs off the first over bowled by Antony Dhas (0-34). Kovai managed to get a breakthrough when medium-pacer K Vignesh (1 for 41) had Hari caught-and-bowled in the fourth over. From thereon, it was Dindigul all the way.

The Jagadeesan-Chaturved pair made their intentions clear in the sixth over when they took 22 runs off Vignesh. Chaturved accrued 17 runs off that over which included two successive sixes and a boundary while his partner Jagadeesan had 5 to his name with one boundary.

Chaturved was the aggressor and Jagadeesan was happy to play second fiddle. By the time Chaturved departed, caught at long-off region off leggie Rajesh’s (1 for 37) bowling, Dindigul were just 38 away from the target. B Anirudh (25 not out, 2x4, 2x6) ensured Dindigul didn’t lose any more wickets as they scripted their second win of the season.

Earlier in the evening, Kovai finished on 185 for 5 from their quota of 20 overs thanks to an entertaining 107-run fourth wicket stand between opener Shahrukh Khan (86, 7x4, 4x6) and Akkil Srinaath (54 not out, 4x4, 3x6). The 72-ball stand commenced in the eighth over at the fall of R Rohith (26, 2x4, 2x6) who was cleaned up by R Ashwin (1 for 29). The duo raised the 100-run stand in 61 deliveries.
Shahrukh and Akkil matched each other shot for shot and didn’t let go of one scoring opportunity. The two ensured Kovai scored 104 runs in the last 10 overs.

Kovai didn’t have the best of starts. Both skipper Abhinav Mukund (4) and Pradosh Ranjan Paul (0) were run out as the side slipped to 24 for 2 in the fourth over. Rohit and Shahrukh added 43 in 30 deliveries for the third wicket to bring Kovai back into the contest.

Brief scores: Lyca Kovai Kings 185 for 5 in 20 overs (Shahrukh Khan 86, S Akkil 54; Mohammed 1 for 27, Ashwin 1 for 29). Dindigul Dragons 190 for 2 in 17.4 overs (N Jagadeesan 66 not out, NS Chaturved 72). Dindigul won by 8 wickets
