Indian women's team is going to be dominant for a long time: Alyssa Healy
MUMBAI: Like in the men's game, the cricketing rivalry between the Australian and Indian women's teams too has been riveting since the last few years. The upcoming series too promises to be hotly contested.
Praising India for challenging the might of her team, the Australian women's team captain Alyssa Healy said, "It doesn't matter what format it is, it's (India v Australia) always (is) really, really competitive. They are two of the best sides in the world going head-to-head. India, obviously, in their home conditions are really, really hard to beat. We've had some success over here in the past, don't get me wrong. But I think the sheer amount of talent in that dressing room, you can't underestimate (India) at any point in time. I think we've seen over the last couple of years that we've managed to get the edge over them a little bit in key moments, in key tournaments."
She went on to predict that India would 'dominate' women's cricket in the future. "But it's not too far down the path that that's going to swing and this Indian team is going to be incredibly dominant for a long period of time. So, it's really exciting. We want to test our skills against the best. And I think what India possesses in that dressing room is some real talent and some real skills. So it's exciting."
Healy also felt that having someone of Troy Cooley's stature and experience as the Indian women's team's bowling coach was "daunting" for her team's batters." I've seen Troy Cooley roaming around in the Indian kit. And to have somebody with that knowledge and that experience in that dressing room, talking to their fast bowlers, is a little bit daunting as a batting group, knowing the information that they're being given. So, I'm really excited for this series. It seems like the Indian team's in a really great place."
"And I think for us, it's almost the start of a new sort of generation, legacy, whatever you want to call it. And it's a great opportunity to come here to India for a month and test ourselves against a really good side," she concluded.
Like all the Aussie cricketers, Healy loves coming to cricket-mad India, and seemed glad that her full-time captaincy reign was starting in this country.
"We genuinely love coming to play cricket in India. Whether it's for Australia or whether it's for a WPL franchise, it doesn't really matter. The support over here and the fanatical nature of the way that they love the game is really enjoyable to be a part of," she said.
"And I guess from that perspective it probably makes it even more special to come back here and take over the reins that way. But more importantly I think the opportunity to play a Test match and to walk out there and put our skills to the test in the longest format. I think it's going to be a really enjoyable experience for everyone," she added.
