NAGPUR: Top-order batters Faiz Sheikh and Manish Ahuja put some excellent batting on display on Monday. They scored attacking centuries each and ensured top-2 finish for their side Navniketan CC on Day-2 of the Guzder League Division 'A' (2-day) match at Jamtha stadium.
Riding on Faiz (178; 233b, 14x4, 3x6) and Manish's (113; 113b, 17x4) three-figure scores and their 221-run partnership for the second wicket, Navniketan took the first innings lead against CDCC and finished at the second place in the points table with 3 points from this match.
With this result, the top-4 teams to book their semis berths are Indian Gymkhana (29 points), Navniketan (27), All India Reporters (21) and MRCC (20).
On Monday, Navniketan scored 410 for 9 in reply to CDCC's 268 all out. Opener Faiz and No.3 Manish joined hands when Navniketan were 31 for 1. They took their side to 252. Manish hit 17 fours while Faiz struck 14 and three over it.
As things stand now, CDCC are languishing at the bottom and they are staring at relegation to Division 'B'. They have one game left against All India Reporters. While an outright win can save CDCC, the same result in All India Reporters' favour can brighten the latter's chances of replacing Navniketan at the second place. The next game is going to be an important one for CDCC. CDCC had made it to the 'A' Division after a lot of struggle and consistency in the Guzder 'B' Division. They would go all out to finish the tournament on a high.
