MUMBAI: Christmas, it seems, has begun already in a 'season of goodies' for Delhi. Even as their senior team has made it to the final of the Ranji Trophy, the capital's Under-23 team has begun the festivities by clinching the Col CK Nayudu Trophy.
On Wednesday here at the MCA's
Sharad Pawar Recreation centre in BKC, Delhi beat Mumbai by five wickets in the final to clinch the title.
Interestingly, the coach of the triumphant team is the man who produced Virat Kohli, Rajkumar Sharma. Resuming at 123 for two on the fourth and final day, Delhi chased down 239 to win the cup, losing just five wickets in the process. Opener
Anuj Rawat top-scored with 75 (87b, 9x4, 1x6), while Dinesh Mor (46 not out, 75b, 4x4),
Jonty Sidhu (40) and Lalit Yadav(31not out) chipped in with useful runs as Mumbai failed to make inroads on the last day pitch.
Brief Scores: Mumbai 230 & 267 lost to Delhi 260-9 decl & 239-5 (Anuj Rawat 75, Jonty Sidhu 40, Dinesh Mor not out 46, Lalit Yadav not out 31) by five wickets.
