NAGPUR: Jagjot Singh Sasan once again played an important knock and lifted Vidarbha out of trouble on Saturday. The highly-rated allrounder slammed an unbeaten 101 and took his side to 308 against Andhra on Day-1 of under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy match at Kalamna.
Jagjot arrived at the crease when Andhra had reduced Vidarbha from 88 for no loss to 126 for 4.
1x1 polls
The right-hander, who followed his own manual of playing the ball on its merit no matter what the situation is, started charging Andhra with crisp shots along the ground from the word go.
With Jagjot (101*; 108b, 15x4, 4x6) playing freely, Andhra were taken aback and opted to spread the field. Jagjot then dictated the terms by cracking 15 boundaries, 4 towering sixes and with his clever running between the wicket.
Jagjot had two key partnerships — 49 runs with Gaurav Farde for the 7th wicket and 67 runs with Pratham Maheshwari for the 8th wicket — as he drove Vidarbha to 308 before he went out of partners. Gaurab and Pratham scored 38 and 27 runs respectively.
In reply, Andhra were 13 for 2 at stumps. They lost both the wickets to left-arm pacer Rajsingh Chavhan.
Jagjot's complemented opener Tushar Suryawanshi's (60; 134b, 8x4, 2x6) effort. Tushar and his partner Neel Athaley (34), double centurion from the last match, added 88 for the first wicket before Neel got run out.
Brief Scores
Vidarbha 308 all out in 83.1 overs (Jagjot Sasan 101*, Tushar Suryawanshi 60; V Rahul 3-10, Mallikarjuna 3-76) vs Andhra 13 for 2 in 6 overs (Rajsingh Chavhan 2-5).
