KOLKATA: Odisha’s batting continued to be their weak link as the Biplab Samantray-led side went down to Railways in a Group A match of Vijay Hazare Trophy in Alur on Saturday.
Odisha bowlers did a fine job by dismissing Railways for 193 runs in just 40 overs, but the batters failed to reach the revised target of 92 from 20.2 overs after start of the second innings got delayed due bad weather.
Odisha were down to 17/3 inside 7 overs and Samantray’s fighting, unbeaten 41 off 49 balls was not enough to help them reach the target. Odisha won their first match by just 4 wickets while chasing 108 against Tripura.
In a Group B match in Jaipur, Jharkhand failed to add to their opening win as they went down to Hyderabad by 17 runs on Saturday. Chasing 298, Virat Singh’s boys could reach only 280 for eight wickets as Saurabh Tiwary top scored for them with 78 off 82 balls.
In a Group C match, pacer Harshal Patel (4/49) and SP Kumar (3/25) helped Haryana dismiss Bihar for 112 in 30.4 overs. With openers Yuvraj Singh (50 off 57 balls) and Ankit Kumar (61 off 60 balls) scoring briskly, Haryana overhauled the target in just under 20 overs for a 10-wicket win. This is Bihar’s second sub-150 score batting first and consecutive defeat after they lost their first match of the meet to Delhi in similar fashion.
