Mumbai: The BCCI will conduct an orientation programme and seminar for umpires in Ahmedabad from August 17-19.

The Board had conducted a ‘Level II’ exam for retired cricketers in June.

Out of the 37 former cricketers who cleared the exam, 17 have played FirstClass cricket, including Tanmay Srivastava, 33, and Ajitesh Argal, 34, who were part of India team that won the 2008 U-19 World Cup in Malaysia under Virat Kohli’s captaincy.

“The BCCI is in urgent need of good umpires. This is the reason why last year, 10 umpires, who had retired previously, were called back to officiate in BCCI games,” a source told TOI
