- India achieved its first Test victory against England at Chepauk in 1952, powered by Vinoo Mankad's 12-wicket haul. In the same year, they secured their first Test series win by defeating Pakistan 2-1 at home, with Mankad taking 25 wickets in the series.
- The team's first overseas success outside Asia came in New Zealand during the 1967-68 season under Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. India won the series 3-1, with spinners Erapalli Prasanna and Bishan Singh Bedi sharing 40 wickets between them.
