VISAKHAPATNAM: The victory against defending champions
Chennai Super Kings on Sunday put them in good stead and the Delhi Capitals will be a different side going into the clash against Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday, said the DC's assistant coach
Pravin Amre.
The 20-run victory on the back of some good performances in batting and bowling departments were what the need of the hour after suffering back-to-back losses, according to Amre. "What we learnt from the IPL experience is that after suffering losses, victory is the only medicine for a team to boost their confidence. Credit to the whole team as they played well in all departments. Along with the performances of Rishabh Pant, the contributions from Indian players like Prithvi Shaw, Khaleel Ahmed and Axar Patel were crucial," he said.
He also had special praise for Khaleel for setting up the game nicely. "I think Khaleel bowled beautifully. To pick up two wickets for nine runs in three overs in powerplay, that set the game for us. To beat defending champions, we needed to play our best game and we did that. I think our bowling unit executed the plans well. CSK had world class players and to contain them was a big achievement," he added.
Knight Riders are also coming into the match high on confidence, but the Capitals are up for the challenge, he revealed.
"We respect every game and each opponent. They (KKR) are coming on the back of two wins. But we are focused on what we have to do. We played well against CSK, and we are a confident side. We make sure the crowd supports us and we want to finish on a nice note as it is our last match in Visakhapatnam," he added.
He further revealed how the DC management took care of Khaleel during the off season to make him a better bowler. "The DC management looked after him. We made sure that he played all the Ranji games. IPL is not a small tournament. Throughout the year, we conducted a lot of camps and he attended all the camps. He also responded very well. He has that hunger and he wants to go to the next level," he revealed.
Coming into the side after two matches, Shah scored an impressive 27-ball 43. Amre was impressed with the batter's attitude. "Warner and Shaw were our auction table openers. Both are explosive batters and left-right combination. Prithvi played sensibly when Warner was going great guns. He got 13 singles, which was unlike for Prithvi as he likes to hit boundaries. But that's what the team needed at that time. He has been with us for a long time now and he is a senior player in the team. We know his contribution will help us achieve good results," he concluded.
