Ahead of the IPL 2017 auctions, TOI Sports looks at the top performers in the Indian domestic T20 competition who might hit the jackot on February 20.
Tanmay AgarwalThe Hyderabad batsman, aged 21, was the leading run-scorer in the Inter State Twenty-20 Tournament 2016/17, scoring 250 runs in five matches at a strike-rate of 162.33. With a base price of INR 10 lakhs, Tanmay is likely to attract the attention of the franchises who will be looking to strengthen their bench.
The opener boasts a List A average of 52.28 and a healthy strike-rate of 92.65. Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad have released quite a few uncapped India players and these two teams would be eying to pick up the Hyderabad batsman.
Ankit BawneOne of the most promising youngsters in the domestic circuit, Ankit Bawne is an aggressive batsman who finished behind Tanmay in the run-getters tally (235 runs at 78.33 and a strike rate of 129.83 ) in the Inter State Twenty-20 Tournament. Bawne, who made his first-class debut at the age of 15 has 68 FC games to his name and in the recently concluded Ranji season, he got together with Swapnil Gugal for a record partnership of 594 runs for Maharashtra. Similar to Tanmay, Delhi and Hyderabad will have Bawne on their radar.
Vishnu VinodBeing a wicketkeeper batsman, Vishnu Vinod’s skillset makes him a bright prospect heading in to the auction. His Kerala teammate, Sanju Samson made waves at the Rajasthan Royals with similar skillset and it should not come as a surprise if the 23-year-old is brought at a higher value than this base price of INR 10 lakhs. In the Inter State Twenty-20 Tournament, Vishnu scored 199 runs in four matches, that helped him make it to the South Zone team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Umar NazirStanding at 6'4", Umar Nazir of Jammu-Kashmir can be a terrific sight for any batsman; add to that he is able to clock over 140 kmph regularly which makes him a rare commodity. In the Inter State Twenty-20 Tournament, Nazir was the second highest wicket-taker with 11 scalps at a strike rate of 10.7 to go with a miserly economy of 4.57. Delhi, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders have released a host of fast bowlers, so they would interested in buying Nazir who has a base price of INR 10 lakhs.
Puneet DateyMadhya Pradesh’s Puneet Datey had caught the attention of many in the junior circuit for his pace and smooth bowling action and he has a knack of taking wickets as well. He claimed wickets off his first two deliveries at the first-class level in 2013. In the the Inter State Twenty-20 Tournament, Datey got 10 wickets from five matches at an economy of 6.66. He has a T20 career economy of 6.59 and is always amongst the wickets as evident from the 14 wickets he has from 15 matches.
