RR vs DC Highlights, IPL 2021: Morris helps Rajasthan Royals beat Delhi Capitals by 3 wickets

Chris Morris (36* off 18 balls) and Jaydev Unadkat (11* off 7) added a match-winning 46 runs for the 8th wicket to help Rajasthan Royals beat Delhi Capitals by 3 wickets in a low-scoring contest at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. The Royals were in trouble when they lost David Miller (62 off 43) in the 16th over, still needing 44 off 25 balls, but Morris had other ideas. Electing to bowl, Jaydev Unadkat (3-15) and Mustafizur Rahman (2-29) helped Rajasthan Royals restrict Delhi Capitals to below-par 147/8. On this wicket, the toss doesn't matter. The surface looks good. Good to hear that we have won the last five matches but the team that plays well will in the match. Hetmyer misses out, Rabada comes in for him. Lalit Yadav makes his debut.

We would like to bowl first. The conditions demand that it's easier to bowl first. Matches come on in a very short time, you have to get over it. We have to take the learning experience and move on. We have plans for every batsmen. You are expected to go for runs here. We need to have a mindset of picking wickets. I am okay if our bowlers go for some runs, we are there to score it back. David Miller comes in for Stokes. Unadkat replaces Gopal.

Pitch Report
"Looks like another great surface, really nice grass coverage on it. There's plenty of runs on this pitch again. You've got to get really straight with the new ball, try and not to let those runs go sideways. Limit the boundaries, make the ones and twos really hard to get, you'll come out on top." - Simon Doull

Following a frustrating four-run loss in the high-scoring opener on Monday against Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals (RR) would have taken comfort in the fact that they came close to a record run-chase. But the news of talismanic all-rounder Ben Stokes being ruled out of the entire 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a freak finger injury would be a massive blow for the wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson-led team. The depleted Royals face an uphill task against favourites Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday in what is likely to be another high-scoring affair. DC have previously won five IPL games against the Jaipur-based franchise including two in the UAE last year and two in India in 2019.

Shikhar Dhawan has scored 547 runs against Rajasthan Royals in 19 innings at an average of 32.17. He hit six half-centuries and scored at a strike rate of 130.23.

...played with a couple of IPL teams but there is a real good feel here, good family sort of vibe going on. It is too early, it's always good to get off to a good start. Winning your first game gives everyone a bit of confidence. You know, everyone is eager to get going, to begin at the start of the IPL but it's just one performance. We know there's a lot of games ahead and some good teams to play against. So, we won't be getting ahead of ourselves but I think everyone in the group is confident and looking forward to the next few games.

There will always be question marks on his keeping, but he [Pant] works hard on his keeping and his batting is just brilliant. But the way I saw him keeping on those turning wickets against England, he kept better than I thought he could. If his keeping continues to improve, he could be India's wicketkeeper-batsman for the next 10-12 years. Brilliant bloke to have in your team, loves to be in the contest.

The feeling in the squad is really good. We're all eager to get back on the pitch and do well. We played well in the last game and unfortunately didn't quite get over the line. I think it's important for us to follow the process and take it game by game. Important to focus on what our job is, that is to express ourselves and play the brand of cricket we want to play. I believe we have a strong squad that is capable of producing the right results in different situations.

Room for improvement for DC bowlers
On the bowling front, Chris Woakes (2/18) and Avesh Khan (2/23) had a good outing in the first game and would look to carry on their form but the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Tom Curran, Amit Mishra and Stoinis had a forgettable outing and would be desperate to make amends tonight.
16:44 (IST) Apr 15
DC openers are in great touch
Both Shikhar Dhawan (85 off 54) and Prithvi Shaw (72 off 38) played their strokes from the word go and looked in complete control during their knocks. Pant (15 not out) and Marcus Stonis (14) did the rest as DC comfortably reached home with eight balls to spare.

Delhi Capitals had a perfect start
Last edition's runners-up Delhi Capitals had a perfect start to their campaign as they defeated three-time champions CSK with consummate ease. Opting to field, DC had allowed CSK to pile up a competitive 188/7 but Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw made a short walk of the target with a 138-run opening partnership, that laid the foundation for the win.

Bowling: Royals' main worry
The major worry for RR team management would be the performance of its bowling unit. RR bowling unit looked rusty and completely out of sorts in their opener. Barring young Chetan Sakariya (3/31), who had a fantastic debut, all other RR bowlers went for runs and looked completely clueless against opposition batsmen. Mustafizur Rahman, Chris Morris, Stokes, Shreyas Gopal, Rahul Tewatia -- all went for big runs and needed to pull up their socks quickly.
