The BCCI is set to laugh its way to the bank after selling its IPL TV and digital rights for the Indian sub-continent for a whopping Rs 44,075 crore, making it one of the richest entities in the sporting world. As per information received, Package A (Indian subcontinent TV Rights) for 410 IPL matches across five seasons from 2023 to 2027 has been sold for Rs 23,575 crore, which is effectively Rs 57.5 crore per game. However, it is the Indian subcontinent digital rights that stole the thunder with Rs 50 crore per game being offered by one of the bidders after the winner of Package A challenged them. The Package B fetched Rs 20,500 crore and thus cumulatively the BCCI is now richer by Rs 44,075 crore after selling the two packages.

So, Disney (Star Sports) has paid Rs 23,575 crore for IPL TV rights for the Indian subcontinent. Whereas, Viacom18 has spent Rs 20,500 crore for digital rights for India.

UPDATE: As per reports, Disney (Star Sports) has bagged Package A - the TV rights for the Indian subcontinent.
The media rights auction for the world's richest cricket league, which has media giants like Disney and Sony Corp vying for broadcast rights that could fetch India's cricket board upwards of $6 billion, has spilled over into the third day, a board official said on Monday. The online auction for television and digital broadcast rights from 2023 to 2027 to the Indian Premier League, the hugely popular two-month cricket league that draws top television ratings, began on Sunday morning and continued all day on Monday as well. The auction was likely to conclude on Tuesday, the official who declined to be named because he was not authorised to speak to the media on this subject, told Reuters.
UPDATE: Package C closed on Day 2 at Rs 18.5 crore per game. Total number of matches in Package C is 98. Bidding for Package C & D will continue tomorrow.

The significance of Package C: All major players would like to own this digital package. If a company wins India digital rights and loses out on non-exclusive rights, then it loses out on massive revenue (advertisement plus subscriptions) for those 18 games which can be accessed at any other platforms. Companies would like to buy it to kill competition.
