PBKS Co-owner Preity Zinta hits out at 'fake narratives' after fourth straight loss
Punjab Kings’ IPL 2026 campaign has suddenly taken a worrying turn after four consecutive defeats, dramatically changing the complexion of their season. Once comfortably sitting at the top of the points table following a seven-match unbeaten streak, consisting of six wins and one no-result, PBKS now find themselves under immense pressure in the playoff race.
The slide began against Rajasthan Royals in Mullanpur, where PBKS were unable to defend a massive target of 223 runs. Things worsened against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad as their batting lineup collapsed to 163/9, a total GT chased down with relative ease. Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab once again struggled in key moments, falling 33 runs short while chasing 236 after their top order failed to deliver. Their slump continued after a heartbreaking loss against Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala, where Punjab failed to defend 210 despite having the game under control for large phases.
Fielding lapses, dropped catches, and an increasingly expensive bowling attack have all contributed heavily to Punjab’s downfall during this stretch. From being early title favourites and table toppers, they have now slipped to fourth place with six wins, four defeats, and one no-result, leaving them on 13 points.
Amid the difficult phase, franchise co-owner Preity Zinta publicly addressed growing rumours and reports surrounding the team environment. Several reports had claimed there were discipline-related concerns within the squad, both on and off the field.
Responding strongly to the speculation, Zinta urged fans and media professionals not to spread unverified information and warned against “calculated misinformation” targeting the franchise and players.
“There’s a difference between criticism and calculated misinformation. Healthy debate around the game is welcome, but the deliberate spread of fake narratives to damage individuals, the team, or the brand should not and will not be taken lightly. I urge everyone, including verified voices and media professionals, to exercise responsibility before amplifying unverified information,” Zinta posted on X.
The franchise also released an official statement backing the same stance and asking people to verify facts before spreading rumours for engagement online.
“Criticism, banter, and opinions are part of sport. Fake stories and made-up narratives for cheap engagement are not. We urge everyone to verify facts before spreading misinformation for attention or traction,” PBKS stated.
Punjab Kings now face a crucial clash against Mumbai Indians in Dharamshala, a game that could significantly impact their playoff hopes. With MI already eliminated from the tournament, PBKS will be desperate to stop their losing streak and avoid slipping further in the tightly contested points table race.
