HYDERABAD :
Chennai Super Kings made a blistering start in their chase of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 194/9 despite losing Sanju Samson in the second over, riding an explosive cameo from teenager Ayush Mhatre.
Dropped before opening his account, the 18-year-old made SRH pay, smashing Praful Hinge for 24 runs in the third over and racing to 30 off 13 balls (five fours, one six) as CSK surged to 60/1 in four overs.
However, Mhatre pulled up while attempting a double and was in visible discomfort after picking up a hamstring injury. His restricted movement was evident, and he fell two balls later. The setback proved decisive, swinging momentum SRH’s way as they went on to win by 10 runs.
The injury, suspected to be a hamstring tear, could sideline Mhatre for weeks, compounding CSK’s woes after Khaleel Ahmed’s recent injury. Batting coach Mike Hussey termed it “a big loss,” adding that Mhatre had been “in nice touch.”
