NFL Trade Rumors: Garrett Wilson linked to unexpected Jets exit as draft speculation intensifies

The New York Jets are not hiding where they stand. After a 2025 season that slipped out of reach early, the front office pivoted hard, moving cornerstone players and stacking draft capital for a longer play. The result is a roster in transition but rich with opportunity. With nine picks in the 2026 draft and three first-rounders already lined up for 2027, the Jets have given themselves flexibility few teams enjoy. The question now is not whether they can rebuild, but how aggressive they are willing to be along the way.

Are the Jets really considering moving Garrett Wilson despite their long-term plan

The idea sounds counterintuitive at first. Garrett Wilson was extended just last summer, a clear signal he was meant to anchor the offense through this reset. Yet, as draft week approaches, his name has quietly entered league conversations. Not loudly, not urgently, but enough to raise eyebrows across front offices.Yahoo NFL insider Charles Robinson captured that uncertainty best, writing, “This one is flying a little under the radar given that the Jets do not appear to have interest in moving off Wilson right now,” before adding, “But there are a few teams that view Wilson among potential trade inquiries if the draft doesn’t break their way at wideout.
And while it seems unlikely the new Jets regime would trade both Sauce Gardner and Wilson after signing them to extensions last offseason, I’d never say it’s impossible”.That last line matters. Impossible is not a word often used around this current Jets regime. They have already shown a willingness to make uncomfortable decisions if it serves the bigger picture. Still, moving Wilson would be a different kind of gamble. He is a proven producer when healthy, a three-time 1,000-yard receiver, and one of the few players on the roster who offers stability amid change.League sources expect “check-in” calls rather than serious negotiations. Teams that miss out on wide receivers early in the draft could circle back, especially given the lack of depth at the position this year. But interest alone does not create a deal. The Jets are not actively shopping Wilson, and his shortened 2025 season may complicate any attempt to extract peak value. There is also a football logic to keeping him. With Geno Smith expected to start in 2026 and a rookie quarterback likely arriving a year later, Wilson provides continuity. He is the kind of player who can ease a young passer into the league, someone who wins routes cleanly and demands defensive attention. For now, the more realistic path is patience. The Jets can use their draft capital to build around Wilson rather than cash him in. But the fact that his name is even part of the conversation says something about where this franchise is. Everything is on the table, even if some moves remain far less likely than others.
