IND vs NZ: New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell equals Babar Azam, closes in on Virat Kohli's elusive record

NEW DELHI: New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell continues to impress in ODI cricket. He reached another important milestone during the third ODI against India on Sunday. With his century at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, Mitchell equalled Babar Azam for the most 50-plus scores in ODIs since 2023. Only Virat Kohli now sits ahead of them on this elite list.

India won the toss in New Delhi and chose to bowl first. New Zealand suffered early damage. Henry Nicholls was dismissed for a duck.



Devon Conway followed soon after for five runs. The visitors were reduced to 5 for 2 inside two overs. Pressure built quickly under disciplined Indian bowling.

Daryl Mitchell walked in during a tough phase. He showed calm and patience at the crease.

The pair added a steady partnership and slowed India’s momentum.

Will Young looked settled and scored 30 runs. His innings ended after a stunning catch by Ravindra Jadeja. New Zealand were 58 for 3 at that stage.

Once again, Mitchell had to anchor the innings as he continued to bat with control and clarity.

Glenn Phillips supported him from the other end. Together, they pushed New Zealand past 200 runs, pushing the Kiwis towards a formidable total.

This knock helped Mitchell match Babar Azam and Pathum Nissanka for consistency since 2023.

All three batters have delivered repeated 50-plus scores in ODIs. Virat Kohli still leads the chart and remains the benchmark. Mitchell is now closing in on that elusive record.
