Virat Kohli had a disappointing outing in the day-night Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval. Despite boasting of an imposing record of 3 centuries and 1 half-century with 509 runs in 8 innings at an average of 63.62 at the ground, Kohli struggled this time around with scores of 7 and 11 in the two innings, respectively.
Immediately after India's 10-wicket loss in the Test match, Kohli was seen practicing in the nets. An attitude and dedication that was praised by cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.
"By going out in the nets today, it shows his dedication. But that is what I would like to see from everybody else." Gavaskar commented while speaking to the broadcasters after the match.
Gavaskar praised Kohli's pride in playing for India and his desire to improve by adding, "He's not scored runs. He is very proud of what he achieves and does for India, and because he hasn't scored runs in this game, he's out in the nets. He's working hard; he's sweating, and that is what you want to see."
Gavaskar appreciated Kohli's effort and dedication and expects him to get back to scoring runs in the remainder of the series. "After that, if you get out, no problem, because that's what sport is all about. You will get runs one day, you will get wickets one day, and the next day you will not. But you've got to put in the effort. He is putting in the hard yards; he is putting in the effort, and that's why I won't be surprised if he's back amongst the runs in the next game." Said Gavaskar.
After scoring his 81st century in the 1st Test victory at Perth and a poor showing at Adelaide in the 2nd Test, Kohli would be determined to complete a few more milestones against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane in the 3rd Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar series.
