IND vs ENG Highlights, 4th Test Match Day 5: Ton-up Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar lead India to gritty draw against England

India vs England Live Score, 4th Test Match Day 5: Shubman Gill scored his fourth century of the series while Ben Stokes, despite battling pain, dismissed KL Rahul as India reached 223 for four on day five of the fourth Test against England at Manchester on Sunday. India started the day at 174 for two, trailing England by 137 runs.

The Indian captain Gill's century proved crucial for India's hopes of saving the match and keeping the series alive. India still trails England by 88 runs with limited batting options remaining, especially with Rishabh Pant injured.

Gill and Rahul's impressive 188-run partnership came to an end when Stokes trapped Rahul lbw for 90 off 230 balls with a delivery that kept low from length.

Stokes, who was unable to bowl on day four due to discomfort in his right shoulder and hamstring, managed an eight-over spell on day five. During this spell, he delivered a rising ball that hit Gill's right thumb before striking his helmet.

Gill's innings ended when he edged a delivery from Jofra Archer that shaped away, contrary to his expectation of the ball coming back in. He was visibly disappointed at his dismissal given India's position in the game.

At lunch, Ravindra Jadeja was yet to score while Washington Sundar was batting on 21 off 61 balls. Jadeja survived a close call when Joe Root failed to hold onto a difficult chance at first slip off Archer's bowling.

England took the new ball after the 80th over, which resulted in Gill's wicket. The bowling duties were shared between Liam Dawson and Stokes at the start of the day.

Left-arm spinner Dawson effectively challenged Washington by bowling into the rough and maintained tight control over the scoring rate.

India vs England Live Score: Washington gets going
Beautifully driven by Sundar as the ball rolls away to the long-on boundary for the first four of the session. Archer pitches it full on leg stump at 138 km/h, and Sundar steps forward, presenting the full face of the bat to punch it cleanly past mid-on. Perfect timing sees it race to the rope in no time.

Ten runs came from that over.
18:21 (IST) Jul 27
IND vs ENG Live Score: Dawson to continue
Dawson continues from the opposite end, with close catchers crowding India’s two left-handers. While the new ball is expected to offer him extra bounce, the most threatening delivery in that over was one that stayed low. Washington handled it solidly in defence.
18:17 (IST) Jul 27
IND vs ENG Live Score, 4th Test Match Day 5: Maiden
Jofra Archer starts with a maiden. Not a great start as most of the balls were wide.

As far as weather is concern, it is looking good so far in Manchester.

India vs England Live Score: We are back
Welcome back for the second session. The players and umpires make their way out to the middle. Washington Sundar (21*) and Ravindra Jadeja (0*) will resume for the visitors. Jofra Archer will start the proceedings for England.

IND vs ENG Live Score: Lunch on Day 5
That’s Lunch on the final day at Old Trafford, and what a gripping session it’s been. India managed just 49 runs in 26 overs and lost two key batters — KL Rahul and captain Shubman Gill. They head into the break at 223 for 4, still trailing England by 88 runs. England head coach Brendon McCullum appeared satisfied, smiling from the dressing room.

KL Rahul and Shubman Gill resumed their innings for India on Day 5, with England starting the day’s bowling through Liam Dawson and Ben Stokes. It didn’t take long for Stokes to make an impact — just 20 deliveries in, he trapped Rahul lbw, ending a massive 188-run partnership. Rahul departed for 90, falling just short of a well-deserved century.

Washington Sundar was sent in at number five and joined his skipper at the crease. The duo looked solid in defence, safely navigating until the drinks break, during which only 19 runs were scored in the first hour. England immediately opted for the second new ball once it became available, but Gill remained composed, bringing up a superb century — his fourth of the series, the most ever by an Indian captain in an overseas Test series.

Gill found steady support from Sundar as the pair handled the fresh-ball challenge posed by Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer. However, in the second-last over before lunch, Archer delivered a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Gill for 103, caught behind after a loose shot. Moments later, Ravindra Jadeja had a lucky escape when Joe Root dropped him at first slip off his very first ball.
17:29 (IST) Jul 27
IND vs ENG Live Score: Dropped
Joe Root puts down a catch off Ravindra Jadeja. He managed to get both hands on the ball but couldn’t hold it, and his second attempt to grab it also failed. Archer is in disbelief, sinking to his haunches in frustration.

IND vs ENG Live Score, 4th Test Match Day 5: Gill falls
Edged and caught by Smith — Archer strikes with the crucial wicket of Gill. A loose shot away from his body results in a nick through to the keeper. Yet again, India lose a wicket right before the session break. Gill departs to warm applause from the Manchester crowd. A big setback for India as their captain falls just before lunch, with Archer delivering a vital breakthrough for England.
17:25 (IST) Jul 27
India vs England Live Score: Feisty from Washington
Washington Sundar has provided solid support to Gill, facing 54 deliveries for his 17 runs. He’s a quietly dependable player, averaging 39 with the bat and 28 with the ball in Tests — impressive figures, especially considering he hasn’t had a consistent role in the side yet.
17:23 (IST) Jul 27
IND vs ENG Live Score: STAT ATTACK
Shubman Gill is the first player to score four centuries in his debut Test series as captain, surpassing Warwick Armstrong, Don Bradman, Greg Chappell, Virat Kohli, and Steven Smith, who all scored three in their first series as captain.

India vs England Live Score: A wake up call for Gill
A brilliant over concludes with a sharp nip-backer that narrowly misses the off stump as Gill shoulders arms.

It’s been an outstanding morning session of cricket.
17:15 (IST) Jul 27
IND vs ENG Live Score: Second new ball?
The second new ball hasn’t had the impact England were likely expecting. It’s a bit surprising Archer isn’t sharing the same end as Stokes, where his height and precision might have been more effective. There’s no noticeable uneven bounce from this end, though Archer does get one to nip back in and catch a thick inside edge off Gill’s bat. Well bowled, but not particularly threatening.

India vs England Live Score: FOUR
Gill greets Archer with a boundary! Bowling over the wicket, Archer delivers a short-of-a-length ball on the off-stump line. Gill lifts his front leg and neatly pulls it to deep backward square leg for four runs.

IND vs ENG Live Score: Woakes with the new ball
Chris Woakes returns from the Jimmy Anderson End. The three slips and gully have moved slightly deeper. Washington gets a genuine edge, but his soft hands ensure it doesn’t carry to the fielders. A maiden to start a fresh spell by Woakes.

IND vs ENG Live Score, 4th Test Match Day 5: Maiden over
Gill again protects Washington from Dawson by playing out a maiden, largely via the medium of immaculate forward-defensive strokes. Whatever the result, this has been the most brilliant captain’s innings from Gill. New ball is taken by England.
16:47 (IST) Jul 27
India vs England Live Score: Stokes not giving up
Stokes beats Washington’s outside edge with a quality delivery. His shoulder discomfort appears to be worsening, and after bowling his eighth consecutive over, this might well be his final one in the spell. The second new ball will be available after Dawson finishes the next over. Washington contributes a couple of runs with a neat wristy flick through midwicket. India now trail by 113 runs. Stokes looks exhausted after a remarkable spell of 8 overs.

IND vs ENG Live Score: Gill turns down a single
Gill nudges Dawson into the leg side but opts against the single, choosing not to expose the left-handed Washington to the spinner. Intriguing tactics at play. It was clearly Gill’s call, though England’s fielders quickly remind Washington that Jofra Archer will be operating from the other end shortly.

Gill then takes a single to leave Washington with one delivery to face. “Here we go,” quips Harry Brook. “Turn and bounce!”

Washington replies in style, lofting Dawson over mid-on. The ball held up in the outfield, limiting him to just a single, but the intent behind the shot was unmistakable.
16:43 (IST) Jul 27
IND vs ENG Live Score, 4th Test Match Day 5: Stats Attack
The stand between Rahul and Gill lasted 417 deliveries, making it the longest partnership by an Indian duo in England in the 21st century. The next two longest were during India’s memorable innings win at Headingley in 2002: Dravid and Bangar shared a 170-run stand over 405 balls, while Tendulkar and Ganguly put together 249 runs from 357 deliveries.
16:40 (IST) Jul 27
India vs England Live Score: Stokes continues
Another vicious lifter from Stokes strikes Gill on the glove, pops up dangerously, but lands safely on the off side. After enduring 15 consecutive balls from Stokes, Gill finally rotates the strike with a sharp single and moves to the non-striker’s end. Such an intense captain-vs-captain duel is a rarity, largely because most captains tend to be specialist batters.
16:32 (IST) Jul 27
IND vs ENG Live Score: Drinks
An absorbing hour of play. Stokes provided the crucial breakthrough, but Gill and Sundar are showing resilience. The new ball is just four overs away.

Dawson slows it down and extracts extra turn from the surface, troubling Washington with back-to-back deliveries around 50mph. The second ball takes an inside edge onto the pad but falls safely in front of the close-in fielders. It's another maiden over, capping a strong first hour for England.

India trail by 118 runs.
16:28 (IST) Jul 27
IND vs ENG Live Score, 4th Test Match Day 5: Fascinating
This is a fascinating contest between the two captains. Shubman Gill continues to defend immaculately and that’s a second maiden in a row for Ben Stokes. He has bowled an excellent spell of six overs. It reads: 6-2-9-1
16:24 (IST) Jul 27
India vs England Live Score: Good from Dawson
Liam Dawson is posing a real threat to the left-handers. Washington starts the over with a stylish wristy flick for two, but appears less assured as Dawson extracts sharp turn from the footmarks. England will be eager to pick up another wicket before the second new ball becomes available.

India trail by 118 runs.

IND vs ENG Live Score: Excellent contest this
Shubman Gill is in visible pain. So is Ben Stokes. But neither of them are ready to give up. Who will blink first is the question but excellent contest this from both the captains. Both captains are pushing themselves to their physical and mental limits at this stage. As the over progresses, Gill does a superb job fending off another low-bouncing delivery from Stokes, who nearly launched into another celebratory appeal.

India trail by 120 runs

IND vs ENG Live Score, 4th Test Match Day 5: Gill looked in unbearable pain
A vicious delivery from Ben Stokes strikes Shubman Gill on the gloves. He appears to be in discomfort and quickly removes his right glove, clearly feeling the impact. Gill immediately pulls away and shakes his finger in obvious pain. The physios comes out and everyone takes a break – he’ll be ok to continue. The replay reveals that the ball glanced off Gill’s gloves and then struck the helmet grill. The physio has come out to the middle, and Gill will now undergo the mandatory concussion protocol. His right thumb was already heavily strapped, so getting hit in the same area would’ve been especially painful.
16:10 (IST) Jul 27
India vs England Live Score: Tidy from Dawson
The footmarks left by the right-arm pacers are likely to make Dawson more dangerous against the left-handers in India’s middle order. For Washington, he’s got an attacking field with a slip, leg slip, and short leg in place. Washington sees out the remaining five balls of the over comfortably.
16:02 (IST) Jul 27
IND vs ENG Live Score: Wicket
Ben Stokes comes through for his team, ending the massive partnership with a brilliant delivery. It was almost unplayable, catching KL Rahul off guard with its lack of bounce. Trapped right in front, it looked absolutely plumb — so much so that Rahul didn’t even consider a review.

Kl Rahul departs for a well-made 90.
15:59 (IST) Jul 27
IND vs ENG Live Score, 4th Test Match Day 5: England have burnt all their reviews
There’s a clear gap between bat and gloves, and England have burned all three of their reviews. The ball brushed Rahul’s front pad, which produced the sound that triggered the appeal. Smith moved to his left to take the catch and went up instantly, but the umpire wasn’t convinced. Replays showed a significant gap between glove and ball, and UltraEdge confirmed it had only clipped the pad. The decision remains NOT OUT, and England are now out of reviews.

India trail by 123 runs.
15:54 (IST) Jul 27
IND vs ENG Live Score: Stokes to continue
Another careful, probing, twisting over from Ben Stokes.

One poor ball, from the England captain, Gill tucked it away to collect a boundary.

India trail by 124 runs.

IND vs ENG Live Score, 4th Test Match Day 5: Not a good sign for England
Ben Stokes appears to be dealing with an issue in his right shoulder, which he was seen rubbing after finishing the over. Speaking on Sky, Stuart Broad suggested it might be a muscle strain — one that could worsen with continued bowling or throwing.
15:46 (IST) Jul 27
India vs England Live Score: Dropped
A tough chance goes begging as Ollie Pope puts one down. Stokes pitches it up outside off, and Gill commits to an expansive drive, but doesn’t keep it down. The ball flies in the air towards cover, where Pope leaps and gets both hands to it, but can’t hold on. Gill survives. England have started well and are making the batsmen play at almost everything.

IND vs ENG Live Score: Ben Stokes
Here is Ben Stokes and he is making the ball talk on a placid track. A terrific start from the England captain, who targeted the stumps and was almost rewarded when a nip-backer kept very low to hit Gill on the pad. What a champion cricketer Ben Stokes is.

IND vs ENG Live Score, 4th Test Match Day 5: Puff of dusts straight away
Liam Dawson begins the day’s bowling against Shubman Gill, with a slip and a silly point positioned to pounce on any mistake. IND vs ENG Live Score: Will Gill-Rahul continue to hold fort?
India will resume their innings at 174 for 2, still trailing by 137 runs, after a remarkably resilient stand between KL Rahul and Shubman Gill. The pair joined forces with India in deep trouble at 0 for 2, and Chris Woakes on a hat-trick, but responded with skill, composure, and grit to see off the remainder of the day. Their reward for weathering a fierce new-ball assault from Woakes and Jofra Archer was a pitch that gradually eased in difficulty. So far, their partnership has lasted 62.2 overs — the longest for India in a Test match in England since 2002.

England, meanwhile, are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the second new ball, which is due in 17 overs. They badly missed Ben Stokes' knack for conjuring breakthroughs with the old ball; the all-rounder didn’t bowl due to a suspected hamstring injury and will be reassessed this morning.

The weather for the moment fine at Manchester. Strong breeze blowing across Old Trafford but no rain in the air.

India vs England Live Score: Will Stokes bowl today?
“We’re hoping so [that Stokes is fit to bowl]. He’s a bit stiff and sore,” England’s assistant coach Marcus Trescothick told reporters on Saturday.

“He’s had quite a big workload in the last few weeks... we’re hoping that with another night’s rest and a bit more physio work overnight that he’ll be back and doing a bit.”

England will have the option of resting Stokes for the final Test at the Oval - but only if they get the job done today. If not, India will return to London with the chance of a 2-2 series draw. For England, given the position they were in at lunchtime yesterday, that scenario is unthinkable.
11 More Updates
India vs England Live Score, 4th Test Match Day 5: Lunch on Day 5 at Old Trafford capped a tense morning session in this riveting Test. India added just 49 runs in 26 overs while losing two key wickets — KL Rahul and Shubman Gill — both instrumental in India's resistance.

Resuming at 174/2, Rahul was the first to fall, trapped lbw by Ben Stokes for 90, ending a 188-run stand with Gill. Washington Sundar came in at No. 5 and supported his captain well as they navigated a testing spell. Gill brought up a magnificent century — his fourth of the series — underlining his class and composure under pressure.

However, just before lunch, Jofra Archer struck, dismissing Gill for 103 with a loose edge to the keeper. Ravindra Jadeja had a stroke of luck, being dropped by Joe Root first ball. India head to the break at 223/4, still trailing England by 88, with the hosts sensing a potential win.

India remain 88 runs behind, and while England are in a commanding position, the forecasted rain this afternoon keeps India’s hopes of salvaging a draw alive. One thing is certain — whichever captain emerges with the result they’re aiming for will have truly earned it.
