World Cup 2019: Shoaib Malik announces retirement from ODIs

Shoaib Malik announced his retirement from ODIs after Pakistan ended their 2019 World Cup campaign with a 94-run win against Bangladesh at Lord's on Friday. Pakistan won their last four games but failed to qualify for the semis.

NEW DELHI: Veteran Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik announced his retirement from One-day International cricket on Friday soon after Pakistan ended their 2019 World Cup campaign at the Lord's in London.Pakistan failed to qualify for the semis even after beating Bangladesh by 94 runs in their final league game. Soon after the end of the game, Malik announced his retirement, sharing the news on the social media."Today I retire from One Day International cricket. Huge Thank you to all the players I have played with, coaches I have trained under, family, friends, media, and sponsors. Most importantly my fans, I love you all," Malik wrote in his tweet
The official Twitter handle of Cricket World Cup also shared a video of Pakistan players giving the veteran batsman a guard of honour.
The 37-year-old played his last ODI against India in Manchester, which Pakistan lost by 89 runs (DLS). Malik played 287 ODIs where he scored 7,534 runs at an average of 34.55 along with nine centuries and 44 half-centuries. He also took 158 wickets with the best figures of 4/19. Fellow cricketers took to social media to wish him luck for the future.
