SA vs UAE: Corbin Bosch shines as South Africa record dominant win
NEW DELHI: Cricket runs in the blood of the Bosch family. Tertius Bosch was a former South African international and his sons, Corbin and Eathan, also play the game. Thirty-three years after Tertius made his debut for South Africa in their first-ever World Cup appearance in 1992, his elder son, Corbin, is not only emulating his dad but also proving to be a match-winner for the Proteas.

Under overcast conditions here at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, Bosch produced an intimidating spell of fast bowling to claim 3/12 from his four overs and set up South Africa’s six-wicket win over a struggling UAE.
Bosch’s performance with the ball halted the momentum of the UAE innings, which had shown early enterprise, and they only managed 122/6. A short rain interruption delayed the South African chase but they made short work of it by coasting home in just 13.2 overs, losing four wickets.
Dewald Brevis seized the opportunity to make some welcome runs before the Super 8 clash against India on Sunday with a sparkling 25-ball 36 as the Proteas made it four wins out of four in the group stage.
Having lived in the shadow of his more famed pace-bowling contemporaries, the 31-year-old Bosch got the opportunity to show-case his prowess when South Africa decided to rest two of their frontline pacers, Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen, and made four changes to their playing XI in an inconsequential tie. Bosch strangled the UAE batters by peppering them with short balls, at over 140 kmph, directed at the body.
Though UAE’s top scorer Alishan Sharafu (45 off 38) held one end up, he failed to accelerate. Sharafu was also at the receiving end of Bosch’s devastating pace as one of his deliveries crashed into his helmet and sent his neck guard flying. Though Bosch should have had Sharafu off the very next ball, the chance was floored by Anrich Nortje at third-man, one of the four catches dropped by South Africa on the field.
Bosch lost his dad early as Tertius passed away at the age of 34. But he admitted that he was happy to carry on the family legacy. “My dad had his own legacy. I think I’m a little bit slower than what he was. Trying to be as fast as he is. But he was an incredible man. I’ve aspired to be the human being that he was,” Bosch Jr said.
SCORES: South Africa 123/4 in 13.2 overs (Brevis 36, Rickelton 30) beat UAE 122/6 (Sharafu 45; Bosch 3-12, Nortje 2-28) by 6 wkts.
